Simple Balls ASMR centers around a deceptively simple core loop: shoot colorful balls onto a circular board, let them roll through checkpoints while producing satisfying sounds, then strategically merge them to create space and increase earnings. What started as a basic concept evolved into a complex retention-focused experience over 18 months of development.
The game deliberately omits background music, instead focusing on the ASMR qualities of rolling balls and checkpoint clicks, accompanied only by subtle wind sounds. This audio-first approach creates a meditative experience that players can engage with actively or passively.
Originally designed with multiple maps and linear progression, player feedback revealed this approach was repetitive and caused progress loss anxiety. The pivot to a single infinite map with a research-based progression system solved both retention and engagement challenges while maintaining the core satisfying mechanics.
The final version includes boss battles, minigames, daily missions, and a complex economy system - all built around the central ball-shooting experience without disrupting its zen-like flow state.
