Magic Pottery 3D transforms the meditative pottery experience into a structured hyper-casual game loop. Players receive customer orders specifying exact shapes and designs, then guide clay through molding, baking, and decorating phases before selling the finished piece. This directed approach solved the 'blank canvas problem' that many pottery games face.
Inspired by Let's Create! Pottery but designed for shorter, more focused sessions, the game balances creative expression with clear objectives. The painting phase offers unlimited creative freedom while the customer orders provide satisfying completion goals.
The project's defining achievement was solving extreme performance bottlenecks in real-time texture painting through compute shaders. What started as a feature that crashed older devices became a showcase of mobile GPU optimization, enabling smooth color mixing, pattern layering, and complex visual effects.
Development included two major iterations: initial touch-based clay deformation and a later ball-control system. The final version used a sophisticated vertical spline system with weighted deformation points and automatic mirroring for intuitive one-handed pottery shaping.
